A fresh approach to business travel

No fly zone: Friday the 13th

February 29, 2012 7:00 am

Business travellers who aren’t superstitious might find themselves flying on a half empty plane on April 13, which is a Friday. Earlier this year, we had a Friday the 13th in February, which had a dramatic effect on airplane bookings in the UK, according to Jetcost.co.uk.

Jetcost reported a 27% decline in leisure and corporate travel flight enquiries for February 13 compared to the preceding seven days. The last time the 13th of the month fell on a Friday was in May 2011, when bookings were down 24%, the company said.

For those who are fearful of Friday the 13th, there is an actual name for your phobia – paraskavedekatriaphobia. Friday the 13th occurs three times in 2012 – February, April and July.
