Business travellers will save a lot of time with the new SmartGate technology, which is designed to replace traditional customs and immigration checks conducted by Customs and Border Protection officers.
SmartGate is now available in most Australian international airports for arriving corporate travel passengers who have an international ePassport (all Australian passports issued after October 2005 are ePassports and carry the gold international ePassport symbol).
At Passport Control, corporate travellers should look for a SmartGate kiosk. Place your ePassport into the reader and answer some declaration questions on the touch screen before receiving your SmartGate ticket. Insert it into the ticket machine and allow the camera to electronically compare your face with your passport photo. Proceed through the gate to collect your luggage before arriving at the Customs check point. Easy!
