The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has approved the use of mobile phones on domestic flights but activity will be restricted to texting, tweeting, checking email and data use.
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has raised no technical objections and the ACMA has now finalised a licensing agreement to enable mobile use in the air for leisure and corporate travellers. V Australia is already on board and will offer mobile communications to its leisure and business travel clients soon.
In flight mobile communications may be more expensive but business travellers may not mind given the advantages of being able to stay in touch with their offices and clients during long flights.
Business travel company, BCD Travel welcomes the technology and says it expects it to be well-received by its corporate travel clients.
