It may not be the ideal location for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE), but the first Space Hotel is on track to open by 2012.
The Galactic Suite Space Resort has a few features you’re not likely to find at your favourite business travel hotel, such as seeing the sun rise 15 times a day and enjoying views of the globe on 80-minute revolutions.
Former aerospace engineer and Galactic Suite Ltd’s CEO, Xavier Claramunt, says it’s “very normal to think that your children, possibly within 15 years, could spend a weekend in space” – if you can afford the $4.4 million for a 3-night stay following an 8-week training course on a tropical island.
At BCD Travel, we think business travel requests involving the Galactic Suite Space Resort are unlikely to be approved by your boss, even if we can negotiate a hefty discount through our Global Hotels corporate travel program.
Of course, this is not the only space travel project in play – Virgin Galactic has been working on this for years with tickets likely to cost $200,000 per ride (well, they are a discount airline after all so you’d expect a cheaper rate!) About 300 people – probably not corporate travellers, have already paid or signed up for a trip.
